Seventeen years ago, Shan was operating
a specialty catering business from a commercial kitchen built at her home
in northern Minnesota. One day, she noticed a small add in a local paper
for a company that she thought was for a competing caterer. Curious to
see what was on their menu, she called for more information.
When she discovered it was not a competitor, she was so
relieved that she agreed to receive some more information, sure that it
would go into the circular file. But when she received the information,
she liked what she saw. And the rest, as they say, was history. Shan began
her Pampered Chef® career in 1991 in a small northern Minnesota town with a population
of 375. She intended to use Pampered Chef® as a supplement to her catering business,
as both involved food and people and would therefore complement each other.

And complement each other they did, for although people
were excited by the food samples Shan created at her cooking shows, they
were even more excited to learn that they could purchase the tools that
would allow them to duplicate those great meals. And some were even more
excited to learn that they could duplicate the demonstration and become
independent consultants themselves. Shan was eager to share the business
with these people, and suddenly, her two careers merged into one as she
began doing Pampered Chef® full-time. |
Seventeen years and thousands of customers later, Shan has
become a Senior Executive director, one of only a few people at this level
of management. Her business has blossomed into a full-time career, but
unlike most careers, Shan has been able to share this one with her family.
Her husband Jim helps train her team on taxes and networking, and her
two children, CJ and Liz have both grown up as employees of
